Hey Folks,
I’m Pranav! I’m a junior at IP University, where my academic pursuits are focused on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. However, I’ve found myself equally drawn to web development, community building, and the world of startups. Following my passion for startups and innovation, I joined PanScience Innovations (PSI) - India's Largest Deep Tech and AI Startup Studio, around three months ago. PSI builds and scales cutting-edge deep-tech and AI startups with passionate entrepreneurs, leveraging deep industry expertise.
As part of my internship at PSI, I’ve been working on a startup called DreamHire—a suite of AI tools designed to address inefficiencies in the hiring process and simplify talent acquisition. Working on DreamHire has been an eye-opening experience, exposing me to real challenges plaguing the talent acquisition industry. These are problems that I firmly believe AI-driven technology can solve efficiently, and I’m excited to be contributing to this transformative journey.
The AI Talent Acquisition ProblemRecently, Kunal Bahl, co-founder of Titan Capital, highlighted a pressing issue in talent acquisition: "We put out a job opening for an Investment Professional... received ~1000 applications. The blatant use of ChatGPT in many of them is so obvious, it’s concerning—will AI breed lethargy as its biggest fallout?"

This post perfectly captures a growing problem: the blatant misuse of AI tools like ChatGPT has caused an influx of low-quality, copy-pasted applications. As a result: Hiring teams are overwhelmed, spending countless hours manually screening resumes. Qualified candidates risk being overshadowed or overlooked. Companies miss out on the talent they actually need. It’s clear that hiring processes, in their current form, are broken, and AI can be part of the solution—but in the right way.
The Candidate Ghosting Problem
A growing concern in talent acquisition is the increasing number of candidates who accept job offers but fail to join on their first day. According to recent research conducted in 2024 by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), over 27% of UK employers reported instances where new hires simply didn’t turn up after accepting an offer. This trend, commonly referred to as "candidate ghosting," has become a pervasive issue, leaving employers scrambling to fill critical roles. Key reasons behind this phenomenon include:
- Multiple Offers: Candidates often accept multiple offers and choose the one they find most appealing at the last moment, leaving the other employers in the dark.
- Lack of Engagement: Once the offer is extended, poor communication and inadequate follow-ups during the notice period result in a lack of connection between the candidate and the company.
- Misalignment of Expectations: Candidates may back out if the role or organization does not align with their initial understanding during the recruitment process.
Why We Need Smart, Intelligent Tools
The talent acquisition process is facing unprecedented challenges, highlighting the urgent need for smarter, more intelligent tools to streamline hiring. Traditional methods often fail to address the complexities of modern recruitment, leading to inefficiencies that affect both employers and job seekers. Here’s a closer look at the problem:
- Too Many Applicants
With the rise of online job portals and automated application tools, recruiters are overwhelmed by a flood of applications, many of which are irrelevant or low quality. Filtering through this deluge is time-consuming and inefficient. - Manual Processes
From shortlisting resumes to coordinating interviews, much of the recruitment process relies on outdated, manual methods, which increase the workload for HR teams and slow down hiring timelines. - Slow Process
Recruitment cycles often drag on, causing delays in filling critical roles. These inefficiencies can lead to missed opportunities for both candidates and employers, as top talent may accept offers elsewhere. - Candidate Ghosting
A growing trend of candidates accepting offers but not showing up on their first day disrupts business operations and leaves companies scrambling to fill the same position again. - Repetitive Tasks
Recruiters spend a significant amount of time on repetitive tasks like screening applications, scheduling interviews, and sending follow-ups—activities that could be automated to save time and resources. - Moonlighting
With the rise of remote work, instances of candidates juggling multiple jobs without transparency have become a concern, complicating the hiring process and creating trust issues
These challenges underscore the need for innovative solutions that can tackle these inefficiencies and create a streamlined, effective recruitment process. Stay tuned to discover how technology can revolutionize hiring and address these pressing issues.
